What if memory were a process, and dreams were the means by which the mind chose and reinforced itself?  Deprivation of sleep would lead to loss of self, and "&lt;a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851578/" rel="nofollow"&gt;Paprika&lt;/a&gt;" style viewing could allow for nuanced analysis and surgical alteration.</description>

					<description>Great thought!  Though it is a leap not (yet) grounded in evidence, I find the idea that our dreams reinforce our memories to be startlingly beautiful.

It reminds me also of the Wim Wenders film "Until the End of the World", in which scientists discover a way for people to view their own dreams... and it proves wildly addictive.</description>
