Occupation: Businessman ----------------------- (-1/1*, -2/2*, -3/3*, ...) Property: Industry Leader - The character has extensive influence in a specialized area of commerce such as railroads, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or the Black Market. Each level of Industry Leader gives you access to a small addendum to the Businessman Occupation. (-2) Attack: You Look Like Just The Person For The Job (Body) – Unless the target is able to pursue a relevant influence action between sessions, he/she is bullied into accepting a position as one of your employees for a number of sessions (including the current one) equal to your margin of success. He/she has to take orders from you that relate to this occupation. He/she may hold another job at the same time, although his/her job with you will cut into his/her available time for other activities. (-1) Ability: Scrutiny [mind] (No Challenge) - The target must name one type of Influence that he/she has, if any. Once per person per session, but if you've used this on a person previously, he/she must name an unscrutinized type of Influence if he/she has one. (-1 per use) One Use: Buyout (Requires Influence Action) – After you have successfully made an appropriate influence action against someone else's interests, you may activate this Ability between sessions to permanently steal one of his/her relevant points of Influence. If he/she has no points of Influence that are relevant, you may instead be able to confiscate his/her property and/or personal belongings. Repeated uses of this Ability against the same person will quickly attract unwanted attention to your overly-aggressive business strategy. Once per target per session. (-1) Recovery: Copious Wealth - Whenever someone gives you a point of their Influence to use, Recover a point of Body or Soul, your choice. Once per person per session. (-1 per level) Influence: Wealth (-1) Modifier: Wealth -> Investment - You may expend a point of Influence: Wealth to fund a venture of your choice. Depending on the success or failure of the venture that you have invested in, you have a chance of losing it all or becoming more wealthy still (effectively increasing or decreasing your level of Influence: Wealth while you remain invested). It is only possible to invest or uninvest one point of Influence: Wealth in a given venture per session, though these may accumulate over time. (1*) Flaw: Robber Baron - Your wealth was obtained, at least partially, through less-than-entirely-sanguine business strategies. Accordingly, the common folk of Victoria are not inclined to trust you. You will have difficulty swaying them with your influence actions; indeed, such attempts could backfire horribly. --- -2 CP or 2* to continue past this point --- (-1) Property: Rock-Solid Accounting - No effect of any kind from the Businessman Occupation (not including Industry Leader specializations) may be used upon you unless you allow it (although influence actions may still, as always, be performed against you). An effect that you do not allow simply fails; its cost is still expended, unless it is a One Use Ability, in which case the user takes the Ability back. (-2) Attack: Positive Change (Mind) – Convince your target that it is imperative that a specific change be made if Victoria is not to stagnate and decay. You must also believe that this is true to use this Attack. (-1) Ability: Talking Business [mind] (Mind vs. Mind Challenge) - Social. If successful, the target must describe one influence action that he/she performed between last session and this one, if any exist. He/she does not need to tell you how much influence was spent, or what types. Once per person per session. (-1 per use) One Use: Vested Interest (Soul vs. Integrity Challenge) - If you are able to perform the challenge successfully without being assisted, you may activate this Ability to take ownership of a Location. That Location gains the "Owner: (Your Name)" Property. If someone else owned that Location previously, he/she no longer does. Once per session maximum. (-1) Recovery: Decorated Just How I Like It - You may use the Recoveries of Locations that you own once per hour instead of once per session. (-1 per level) Influence: Commerce (0, -1, -2, -3, ...) Modifier: Commerce -> Financial Management - After every session, you may store a number of Influence points equal to your level of Financial Management, cumulative with any that you have previously stored in this manner. You may spend these points at any time. (1* per level) Flaw: The Vagaries Of The Market - Depending on the economic state of Victoria as a whole, it sometimes becomes more difficult for you to perform influence actions of any kind. How bad it can be for you, and how sensitive your wealth is to these fluctuations, depends on how much of your money is tied up in stocks and bonds, which is in turn determined by your level of The Vagaries Of The Market; this may not be purchased above the total number of Influence points from the Businessman Occupation and its offshoots that you have.
